Project Description:
The Building A Better Athlete project, the humanities section, is about discovering challenges that the community members around us face. We used a series of interviews to identify how these people have overcome their hardships they’ve faced or how they cope with the hindrance occurring in their life. While learning about these situations we demonstrated our understanding through art, anecdotes, articles, and audio files. In Physics/Science we took the perspective of a scientist creating different ways to build a better athlete. Throughout our six week project we learned about thermodynamics, heat transfer, thermodynamics of the human body, and biomechanics. We learned about these subjects through different challenges presented in class, ex. building prosthetics, building tools to help with fine motor skills, living a day without a limb, creating or spreading news for ways to prevent heat exhaustion, build an athletic clothing line, etc.
Products:
Challenge #1: Electrolyte Tablets
Challenge #2: Reflection ; Data Sheet
Challenge #3: Newseum Reflection
